My Experiments
With the photographs of Jeremy (above), while in real life the bruised eye looked very painful and realistic, on the photographs it didn't show up very well at all. So when I try again, I'll be more dramatic with it, as it's most important how it will look in my finished photographs rather than in real life. I also want to have a go at creating some scratches and things too. I do however think that the eye look would work well for maybe the second layer of the photography set when the abuse is less prominant.
Along with the facial makeup, I also want some subtle makeup on other parts of the body to make it more realistic. I made some finger print bruises on my arm to make it look as though it had been grabbed. I also experimented with writing words into liquid latex, as I may use this for one of the QR code parts. I might have the person covered in words that have been thrown at them to show that words also have a huge impact, and that domestic abuse doesn't have to be physical, it can be psychological as well. It may be harder for me to create words that have more curved letters in them, due to the tools I use being so straight, but I can try it out and see how it goes. It could look more effective being messier, or being cleaner.
I also did a quick burn, but it doesn't look very effective due to me not having a very large colour palette so I couldn't create very much depth. I had also done too many layers of the liquid latex so it was difficult to tear.

I helped out on Jeremy's project by doing his makeup. I found this to be a good practise for when I come to do my project. I used derma wax to create the cuts in his face. He originally wanted words allover his face and for the letters to appear one letter at a time. However this wasn't possible due to two things: time and temperature. I had expected to be doing the makeup inside however I was applying it outside and the derma wax needs to be warm in order to work properly. This has taught me though that in the future if I'm doing any makeup outside I will need to keep my hands warm in order to work the materials.
Domestic Abuse Photo shoot
Today (15th March) I took photos of two of my models for my project below are a few pictures of the makeup:

SFX Makeup Workshop With Danielle
This morning we did a SFX makeup workshop with Danielle. Our goal for the workshop was to create a black eye and a broken nose. We started off with the black eye, and I soon discovered why my attempts at a black eye on the earlier photos weren't very effective. It's best to use a sponge which has been torn as it creates a nice stipple effect and is more broken, so the bruising looks more realistic. It's also best to approach the bruise with a "less is more" attitude and to slowly build it up.
For the broken nose, we used dermawax which we had to roll up into a small sausage and lay across the bridge of the nose. We then blended out the edges and made a small cut through the centre of the wax. Where we put the red around the cut, we had to leave a space between the red and the cut to make it look more realistic.
On the three photos above, you can see how I built up the makeup on Ashleigh.

This week we were experimenting with latex and created slit/cut wrists. For mine I originally wanted to do an upside down cross, however the tissue didn't tear how I wanted it to. I do think that the cut still looks quite good, but the surrounding area needs some more work.
Today was our last Thursday doing our SFX makeup lesson, and I'm really quite sad, as I seriously enjoyed doing this. I've learned some really helpful things which I'm going to remember for future projects. Today we were left to do our own creations. Initially we were going to do splintered fingernails, but due to one of the store rooms being shut, there was a long wait until we could get some false nails. So I decided to try out doing a severed finger, which I think looks quite realistic. I know you can see some latex and it's a bit shiney, but least I know for next time.
