Today I was given a brief about the Beaufort wind scale. As I was unsure what this was, I researched it and found out that it is a way of measuring wind power and the effect that is has on the land. I'm not feeling to confident about finishing this project to the deadline, as I've only got a week to do it, but I'm sure that I can at least get a plan in place. I'm not entirely sure what the brief is asking me to do, so I'm just going to interpret it my own way, as I'm sure I'll still manage to get an interesting outcome. The way I have chosen to interpret the brief is comparing the beaufort scale to something that builds up such as emotions. I think that I could make some really interesting pictures to go with each stage of the beaufort scale.
My idea for this project is to look at the stages of worry in comparison to the beaufort scale. What I'd really like to have done would have been a small animation, however I no longer have my tablet due to the floods, and I can't afford to buy one in time for this project. However I think that some photographs would be just as effective, and I could adjust the colours depending on the stage of worry.
For the first stage which is beaufort number 0, it would be where the person is relaxed and focused. They're getting on with their day to day activities without being distracted by bad thoughts.

- Beaufort number 1 would be where something is passed in casual conversation. Something minor such as someone saying that their jeans are getting a bit tight, or they're wondering how to complete the homework.
- Beaufort number 2 is when the comment or sight is more prominent, and you notice it. You register the comment or the sight in your brain.
- Beaufort number 3 is when it is directed towards you, and it is in your mind. You are aware of the comment or sight that is now in your consciousness
- Beaufort number 4 is when you are going about your daily activities with the thought in your head. It's not causing you any distress but it's there.
- Beaufort number 5 is when the thought is in your head no matter what you are doing. It is not get causing you any distress, but you're constantly thinking about it
- Beaufort number 6 is where it begins to cause you distress. You begin to question what you've heard or seen.
- Beaufort number 7 is when you're not only questioning what you've seen or heard, but you're applying it to yourself. For example, a girl made a comment about her legs being fat, you would then begin to wonder if your legs are too big, and if you need to do anything about it.
- Beaufort number 8, is when you begin to loose sleep over it because it is on your mind constantly. You're getting tired and irritable.
- Beaufort number 9 is when you begin to over analyse other people too. You start comparing yourself to everyone else and worrying that you don't match up to them.
- Beaufort number 10 is where it seriously affects your day to day activities, you just can't think straight, and things begin to crumble. All your attention is focused on the thought, so other things that require your attention get neglected, such as college work, or chores.
- Beaufort number 11 is when all the worry bubbles over, you just can't take it anymore and you need to speak to someone, or get it out of you. You haven't done anything properly for days because you can't focus on anything other than whats in your head, and you get angry with yourself for neglecting other things, and you begin to have even more to think about.
I had originally planned to take photos of my friend at college, however due to the snow I was unable to get to college on Thursday, and there was no chance of me getting someone to mine. I had hoped that by today (Friday) the weather might have improved so that I could have picked her up, but the snow has now turned to ice. I unfortunatly can't find my sketch pad and pencils due to our house being flooded, and them being somewhere amongst the furniture. I think if I had had longer than a week to do this then I could have made better arrangements, but I just haven't had the time. If I'd have had more time I could have either arranged to take pictures of someone else, or I could have gone out and bought myself a new sketchbook and some pencils.
What I also could have done is change my idea all together and find a copyright free song that builds up and gets more intense, and I could have created a video to go along side with text appearing at certain points to explain what stage of the beaufort scale it was at. However again, I have very bad internet due to using hotspots from neighbours, and wouldn't have been able to download any songs. It's unfortunate that I've only just had this idea today, as I could have done this while at college.
